The woman is Julia she is a mechanic for the Ministry of Truth and the two fall into a forbidden romance. They acquire a private room from a shopkeeper where they can meet without fear of the "thought police" monitoring them.
One day in their secret room Winston and Julia are captured and taken to the Ministry of Love where they are interrogated and tortured. Winston and Julia are eventually brainwashed and returned to society. One day the two lovers meet again and the memories of their forbidden love come rushing back.
